More on optimal nutrition

Since posting this entry, I have revisited some research that refutes one of the statements I made. I said, "I need to eat more lower nutrition starches and less higher nutrition nuts/seeds."

Research does show that many starches are as high or higher in nutrients than nuts and seeds. You can see the citations to this research here and continued here.

Also, research research from the Linus Pauling Institute at the University of Oregon that supports the health benefits of nuts/seeds with the daily nuts/seed intake recommendation of 1-2 oz. per day.

In summary, there is strong research support for a low fat diet high in starches with nuts/seeds consumption limited to 1-2 oz. per day. The research does not support any health benefits of nuts/seeds over 2 oz. per day. There are no known populations anywhere in the world that consume more than 2 oz. of nuts/seeds per day. Is there any research that indicates that high mono fat intake is harmful. Apparently, the research of Larry Rudel, M.D. does point to the dangers of a high mono fat diet. I will be looking at that research and reporting on it in another post.
