Last night I spent the evening making Fuhrman anticancer soup. I am a bit clumsy in the kitchen, so it takes me about twice as long as an experienced cook. I put the water and split peas in the pot, turned on the heat and started to prepare the rest of the ingredients. There is lots of cleaning and chopping of vegetables. I was an hour into the prep before I realized that I had turned on the back burner on the stove, when the pot was on the front burner. I was wondering why things weren't heating up. I corrected the situation, but that really slowed things down. I didn't have organic carrots so I had to be meticulous about cleaning them (5 lbs. worth). The resultant soup was pretty good, but I have a long ways to go before I can be called a master vegan chef.
Breakfast - 9:00 am
Brown Smoothie
1/2 fresh pommello
1 medium banana
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
5 dates
3 oz organic baby spinach
2 oz kale leaves
3 ice cubes
1 ml DHA Purity
1 TBSP ground flax seeds
Put ingredients in Vitamix and blend until smooth and creamy
This one was especially good. Some people would not like the brown color, but it was delicious. The pommellos really make a nice flavor. The kale is a bit bitter, but there are enough sweet ingredients to soften the kale flavor. Really nice combo of flavors in this one.
Lunch 4:30 pm
Fuhrman AntiCancer Soup with some bread dipped in Russian Fig Dip
Dinner 7:00 pm
Veggie Plate 1.5 baked sweet potato with mango salsa
2 ears of corn
1 cup of steamed spinach
Raw trail mix

I messed up on the anticancer soup too. First time I cut up the vegetables instead of adding them whole, and then had a harder time removing them to blend. The second time I didn't blend the cashews enough. But third time will be perfect.
My biggest problem has been with the beans, split peas in this case. The first and second time I made this soup, the peas never fully cooked. The recipe says keep heat on the lowest setting. On my third batch I will turn the heat up higher at the beginning and cook the beans longer before adding the rest of the ingredients.
I didn't blend the cashews enough either. Live and learn.
yeah, that does remind me that I had the same problem with the split peas. When they get old, they take longer to cook. I recall even though I had got them recently from the store, they still took a long time. I might have used a different bean the second time. I'll have to try this again soon.
oh, with the cashews, blend them in a smaller amount of liquid--that was the mistake I made, too much liquid and then it didn't blend the cashews as well.

Hmmm...thanks for the suggestion regarding cashews. I'll try it that way next time. Joel throws his in with the first batch of veggies from the soup with some liquid. At least I think that's what he does on the DVD.
